Eastwood Christian Church - Nashville, TN
Sermons, music and other highlights from worship services at Eastwood Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), located at 1601 Eastwood Avenue, Nashville, Tennessee.

One of the blessings of our Community at Eastwood Christian Church is our wonderful Children's Choir, led by the awesome Liz Johnson.  These elementary-age children regularly share their musical gifts with us in Worship - and now you can take them with you wherever you go! They have recorded a CD, and we'll be sharing songs from it periodically.

We're pleased and proud to share this recording of the ECC Children's Choir singing "Simple Gifts" (Brackett).  The choir is directed by Liz Johnson and accompanied by Steve Kummer.

We are pleased to share this recording of our Worship service on April 12, 2015.

This service was a little different than our "usual" Worship, as it incorporated elements of contemplative singing from the Taize tradition.  We are thankful to Julie Duemler for leading the singing for the congregation.

This Worship service was lovely, peaceful and contemplative - as Pastor Jay Hartley said as Worship began, the hope was that this time would enable people to simply bask in the love of God.

We hope that by listening you too can immerse yourself in the love of God.  Please listen, share, and enjoy!

We are pleased to make available this recording of our 2015 Maundy Thursday Worship service on April 2, 2015.

This service commemorates the Last Supper and tells the story of the betrayal, crucifixion, and death of Jesus.  This is a solemn service, ending in darkness and silence.

As a part of the service the church is stripped of banners and decoration, and the cross that hangs in the sanctuary is veiled.  This extended period of silence has been edited from this recording.

"On this day known as Transfiguration Sunday, my prayer is that we can transfigure or transform our approach to reading the Bible.  Balaam got in trouble when he tried to go somewhere that God didn't want him to go - and we get in trouble when we try to make the Bible into something that it is not."

The Sermon for our Worship service on Feb. 15, 2015, is titled "Talking Donkeys, Chariots of Fire, Charles Darwin, & Jesus" and is presented by Pastor Jay Hartley.  We hope you will be enriched by listening and will be moved to share with others.

Friends, I'd like to invite you to a brief time of meditation.  It'll take less than four minutes, and I'm confident you'll find it well worth the time.

While we celebrate communion every Sunday, on the first Sunday of the month we do it in a different and special way.  We line up and walk down the center aisle, we take some bread and dip it in the cup and consume it, and we form a chain all around the sanctuary, holding hands.

And as we do these things, we sing.  The organ leads us off but then quickly fades away so that unaccompanied voices fill the air.  We hold hands and we sing a simple refrain, again and again:

Eat this Bread, Drink this Cup, Come to Me and never be hungry

Eat this Bread, Drink this Cup, Trust in Me and you will not thirst

I love doing this.  I love looking around and seeing our loving community of faith, joined in this celebration, singing and praying.

This recording is a little less than four minutes of that unaccompanied singing from our Worship on Sunday.  I hope you'll be able to find a quiet spot, close your eyes, breathe deeply, and listen.  Listen to the assembled voices together.  What a blessing!
