Eastwood Christian Church - Nashville, TN
Sermons, music and other highlights from worship services at Eastwood Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), located at 1601 Eastwood Avenue, Nashville, Tennessee.

"Jesus called us to live righteous lives and to create a society based on justice and on the well-being of all people.  When you say 'Put Christ back in Christmas,' you are asking for a prophetic critique of ourselves, and of our culture."

This recording is of the sermon "Welcoming Christ for Christmas," delivered the Fourth Sunday of Advent, Dec. 21, 2014, by Pastor Jay Hartley.

Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11

1 Thessalonians 5:16-24

"The trouble with most of us is that we'd rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism." - Norman Vincent Peale

Friends, we are very pleased to share this recording from our first-ever second Christmas Eve service of Lessons and Carols - featuring bluegrass music and lessons from the Cotton Patch Gospels.  What a celebration!

Because of technical challenges we did not not quite get the entire service recorded - but we came close!  The recording begins with the first hymn and concludes with a solo of "O Holy Night," presented during communion.

We owe a huge thanks to everyone who helped make this service possible. Our Music Director Julie Duemler created the service.  For Music we owe a huge thanks to our musicians: Stuart Duncan, John and Rebecca Frazier, Ketch Secor, Jonell Mosser, Dieta Duncan, and Julie Duemler.  For Word, we thank our Lesson readers: Shelley Freeman, William Aaron, Susan McBride, Bob Frech, Steve Walls, Steve Dickerson, and Julie Duemler.

And there are, of course, so many others who worked to make this special evening possible. We are thankful for every member of our loving community!

We hope this recording brings you all of the joy and love from our celebration!

Merry Christmas! We're pleased to share this recording of our "traditional" Christmas Eve service of Lessons and Carols. This service is an Eastwood tradition, with the story of the Nativity alternating with carols and special music. The service ends in communion and candlelight.

We owe a huge thanks to everyone who helped make this wonderful service possible. For Music, we thank Pastor Jay Ross Hartley and his entire family for sharing their talents; Lori Corley; Bruce Cate; Jonell Mosser; Julie Thurmond Duemler; Stuart and Dieta Duncan; and Brandon Brown for his stirring solo of "O Holy Night" during communion.

For Word, we thank our Lesson readers: Ric Rose, Jason Frech, Ashley Boyd, Ann Howard, Emily McDonald, Gary Swinger, and Glen Alan Graham.

And there are, of course, so many others who worked to make this special evening possible. We are thankful for every member of our loving community!

We hope this recording brings you all of the joy and love from our celebration!
